Phil Gray reports in the day:
"A glorious July day as yours truly was helping with a little
event known as the Bedford Race For Life 5k. About 6000 plus ladies raising
money for Cancer Research UK and in memory of loved ones. I was part of the
Harriers posse given marshalling duties for the day as ladies from the region
and
beyond made ready for the start.
Some time after 11, 6000 plus addressed a 5k course that
looped around the Embankment, before a small loop around Russell Park and the
Finish just outside Nicholls Cafe. Good to see Harrier ladies doing their bit,
including Delores Wallis and Janet Lehman. I captured some of the action on
camera and had the good fortune to be sprinkled with some fairy dust from ladies
in angel attire. It's true I tell you as a stream of ladies came past me in the
July heat, which must have touched 30 degrees. A cousin of mine in the guise of
Shirley Brown was also participating as the last ladies appeared.
Well done to all who went the distance, to all who helped put
the whole show together, to the Harriers massive and for a magical and majestic
day in Bedford. Time for a beer I think".
