Bedford Harriers A.C.
|
Four Harriers met (Maria McBeth, Suet Lua, Richard Watson and driver David Russel) at 8am on an end of October morning (thank god the clocks had gone back an hour) to travel to Wisbeach for the Fenland 10. Whoever commented in the car that “it looks a nice day for a run” did not take into account that Hurricane Wilma was to hit Wisbeach during the run and apart from the first two miles would not be kind to the runners. We were joined by Neil Lovesey and Jenny (who managed to enter on the day – contrary to initial statements) to make six Harriers for the race. We were cheered on at the start by Steve Crane, who had driven the 70 miles to issue flyers for the Harriers half marathon (well done Steve), but no sign of any Phil “Leicester Tiger” Grey hence Dave Russell’s picture to follow (I was told to put that comment in!!!!!!!!!!!). The race was a good race but the wind took effect, particularly around the 8 mile mark, but I think that all six of us enjoyed it, apart from the lack of showers at the end. Suet’s tales of all of her races over the south of England were particularly engaging on the way home and all in all it was an enjoyable day. Richard Watson |
