The
Harriers along with seven other local clubs clubs - North herts, Wooton, Ampthill, Valley spartans, Stopsley,
Garden City and FVS tri - were invited to take part in the Mulligtawny XC
challenge. There were 15 members per team of which at least 3 had to be
ladies. Scoring was 3 men & 3 ladies of any age category.
The course was 7 miles of mud (very
sticky as well) and 1000ft of climb over and around the Barton Hills area..
It was also very slippy this year which made everyone question their
sanity.
The race started on a narrow track
which went straight up making cemetery hill look like a mole hill. From then
on it was either very boggy or on good path going either down or up and by
golly was the up UP. Each area of hazard was called a name such as the swamp
or cardiac hill but the Hexton point should have been called Mount Everest
because it looked so high. The race finished where it started, going down the
slippery slope which by now was extremely churned up. Everyone really enjoyed
it and as a bonus the ladies won the ladies team prize. Valley spartans were
the 1st male team and we are still waiting conformation on the overall
positions. The first Harrier home was Kevin W. and the 1st lady Donna.
The Team was. Neil Lovesey, Alistair Fadden, Kevin Willetts Steve Gaunt, Morgan
Walters, Matt Burgin, Richard Piron, Rob Miller, Tony Parello, Simon Fisher,
Pete Gowans, Cliff Smith, Carla Fisher, Donna McEwen, Andrea Ward and Veronica
Singleton.(16 in all, as we took a extra place from another club)
Well Done to All.
